Columbian star Carlos Vives se llevó a casa the President’s Award Tuesday night during the 21st Annual Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) Latin Music Awards.
The singer, who is known for hits such as “Volvi a Nacer,” “Como Le Gusta a Tu Cuerpo” and the official 2014 World Cup song, “La Copa De Todos,” was awarded for his achievements in songwriting and global influence in the entertainment industry.
Vives is also considered a pioneer of la música latina. This is mainly because he is one of the first artists to popularize Columbian pop music not just in his native country but around the world as well.
The 52-year-old singer has won a total of eight Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards combined.
Last year, he released his album “Corazón Profundo,” his first in almost a decade.
Since then, he’s had three number one singles.
Also awarded at the star-studded gala inside the Bellagio in Las Vegas were dos idolos de la música regional mexicana: Espinoza Paz and Roberto Tapia.
Paz has honored with the Songwriter of the Year award while Tapia was awarded the BMI Latin Song of the Year Award.
