Run-DMC Announce First Performance In Ten Years | DJ Laz Morning Show

Joseph “Run” Simmons and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels will perform as Run-DMC for the first time in nearly a decade at the seventh annual Fun Fun Fun Fest, set for November 2-4 in Austin, Texas.

Simmons and McDaniels officially retired the Run-DMC moniker in November 2002, just days after founding member Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell was shot and killed in his Queens recording studio. Ten years later, his death remains unsolved, and in the decade since, the relationship between the two surviving members became strained. They famously decided against performing as Run-DMC when the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.

But in a show of solidarity — and as a way of marking the ten-year anniversary of Jay’s murder — Simmons and McDaniels will not only headline the Fun Fun Fun main stage, but are working with organizers to donate a portion of the proceeds from the festival to the JMJ Foundation for Music, which is dedicated to providing access to the arts for children and young adults.
