Los Angeles is about to roll out the red carpet for another major music event.
On Wednesday, MTV announced that this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) will be returning to the West Coast.
The location: The L.A. Forum.
“I am thrilled to welcome the MTV Video Music Awards to the Forum in Inglewood,” said James T. Butts, mayor of Inglewood. “Since its reopening in January, the ‘Fabulous’ Forum has become the destination for music-lovers in Southern California.”
The 2014 VMAs van a ser the first major awards show to be held at the newly-renovated site.
“A truly historic location and home to some of the greatest concerts and sporting events, the Forum is back, better than ever and ready to shine for decades to come,” Butts said. “We are truly excited to shine a spotlight on the reinvented Forum and our great city.”
In the past, the Forum has hosted concerts by artists such as Elvis Presley, Queen and Diana Ross.
Y what better place than L.A.’s legendary locale to continue the legendary awards show?
The VMAs have been the stage for epic moments in music history and that is sure to continue this year.
Who can forget Madonna and Britney Spears’ kiss in 2003? or Lil Kim’s breast-baring outfit in 1999? or the moment in which Beyonce announced she was pregnant as she performed? And of course Miley Cyrus’ legendary twerking performance during last year’s awards show?
The last time the VMAs were in L.A. was inside Staples Center in 2012. Last year, they were held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
