From rapper and songwriter to now host.
Drake has been chosen to host this year’s ESPY Awards. The “Hold On, We’re Going Home” singer revealed the news Wednesday morning via his Twitter account.
“This is an incredible opportunity for me to combine two of my biggest passions–sports and performing,” said 27-year-old recording artist in a statement released by ESPN.
Every year since they were first launched in 1993, the ESPY Awards honor the top male and female athletes as well as celebrate the year’s best moments in sports.
Y este año, Drake will be front and center del fiestón.
“Drake is an unbelievably talented entertainer who truly has a passion for sports,” said Connor Schell, ESPN Vice President who supervises the ESPYs. “We are thrilled to have him to host this year’s show.”
Drake has a deeper connection to sports than just being a fan.
Last year, he became the global ambassador for his hometown Toronto Raptors. As ambassador, he has helped launch a Raptors clothing line, worked with a team to redesign the appearance of the team y hasta salió en un commercial del NBA team.
El awards show también raises money. Every year, more than $1 million is raised for The V Foundation, which promotes cancer research.
The 2014 ESPY Awards will take place July 16 at the Nokia Theatre in L.A. Live at 9 p.m. EST and will air on ESPN.
