Health Warning For Those Who Live Near Exile Plant

A health warning has been issued for the residents of southeast Los Angeles.

The warning is regarding high levels of lead that were found in soil at homes and a preschool near a battery recycling plant in the area.

Officials tested 39 homes and apartments as well as two schools in Boyle Heights and Maywood for lead and that was enough to raise some eyebrows.

The testing results showed that every home and school exceeded the state’s lead limit of 80 parts per million.

This creates a concern for everyone especially children and pregnant women.

Phone calls have been made to warn of the residents and a community meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday, March 19 at the Resurrection Church in Boyle Heights.

If you live in the area, it is advised that you wash your hands often, stay away from bare soil y if you grow vegetables, to only do so in raised beds.

This is the first time the contamination in residential areas near the plant has been found in the state.

A plan has been ordered for more testing.
