It is the end of an era.
The man who has made us laugh every night right before we went to bed for over two decades has officially said “adiós”.
Comedian Jay Leno who hosted “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” weeknights on NBC since 1992 filmed his last show Thursday night with a star-studded lineup.
“This has been the greatest 22 years of my life,” said Leno with tears in his eyes as he ended the show. “I am the luckiest guy in the world.”
He went on to say that the people he worked with on NBC became his family.
“When people say to me ‘Hey why didn’t you go to ABC, why didn’t you go to Fox,’ I didn’t know anybody over there,” Leno said. “These are all the people I have ever known.”
The star-studded farewell was led by fellow comedian and actor Billy Crystal, quien tambíen fue Leno’s first guest back in May 1992.
Crystal created a comic rendition of “So Long, Farewell” from “The Sound of Music” that included appearances by Jack Black, Kim Kardashian, Carol Burnett, Sheryl Crow, NBA player Chris Paul, Jim Parsons y hastá Oprah Winfrey.
Country singer Garth Brooks was the musical guest and performed two songs.
Leno said he is excited to sit back and see where the next generation takes the institution.
“It really is time to go and hand it off to the next guy,” he said.
That next guy will be Jimmy Fallon, who will be taking “The Tonight Show” back to New York, where it began.
Fallon will begin his new hosting gig on February 17.
