Some of the biggest names in music, film and television gathered inside the Pasadena Civic Auditorium last Saturday for the 45th Annual National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards.
In the music categories, John Legend, Beyonce, K. Michelle, Robin Thicke, T.I. and Pharrell Williams all came out on top.
John Legen won the award for Male Artist while Queen B took home the award for Female Artist.
R&B recording artist K. Michelle was crowned Top New Artist while Robin Thicke, T.I. and Pharrell Williams were honored for their collaboration on the hit single “Blurred Lines.”
Besides winning the Actor in a Comedy Series award, actor and comedian Kevin Hart also won one of the most prestigious awards of the night, Entertainer of the Year.
As far as film goes, “12 Years a Slave” was the night’s top winner with a total of four awards including Outstanding Motion Picture, Directing, writing and Supporting Actress for Lupita Nyong’o.
“It’s been a historical year in film for all of us in this room. and I’m so proud to be a part of that history,” said Nyong’o. “It’s such an honor to be recognized for a film that has meant so much to so many people, a film that has inspired discourse long overdue.”
Other Image Award winners include actress Kerry Washington, who grabbed her fifth Image Award by winning Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series and actor Forest Whitaker, whose participation in “The Butler” won him the best Actor in a Motion Picture award.
