Los Angeles received a cool gift from México!
Mayor Eric Garcetti visited Los Angeles’ sister city Mexico City in 2014, Mexico gifted us with a sculpture. Garcetti officially accepted the gift at an event last week.
The piece from artist Jorge Marin is called “Alas de la Ciudad,” or “Wings of the City” in English. It features a pair of beautifully detailed bronze wings that appear suspended in the air, at about shoulder-height. Mexican Consul General Carlos Sada said the sculpture is “a symbol of the deep friendship that exists between Mexico and Los Angeles.”
According to LAist, the wing will permanently be placed at City Hall, at the northwest corner of First and Los Angeles streets. However, Cultural Affairs Department General Manager Danielle Brazell said that location is not a definite yet, though the official location will likely be in the Civic Center area of the city.
